BIOGRAPHY |
WHAT'S NEW Pepe has a new solo show that premiered at the Ottawa Folk Festival this summer. This show will be the primary focus of touring next season. As opposed to most shows that are comprised of different "pieces", songs, etc., it consists of one single flow of music that takes the listeners on a journey of deep listening, and certainly deep grooving. Audience reponse so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
The recording "Ocean of Sound" is almost ready for release. It is a live recording of Pepe's concert of Healing Soound with his friend and student Zamir. It is another deep listening journey with Quartz Crystal Bowls, Tibetan Bowls and Bells, Gongs from many cultures, Chimes and Sacred instruments such as the Japanese Shakuhachi, the Mbira from Zimbawe, Udu drum from Nigeria, Eagle Feather Flute, Andean Ocarina and other amazing sounds. Pepe is also chanting in both the Buddhist and Candomble/Santeria Traditions. If you are interested in aquiring a copy please get in touch by e mail.
Pepe has finally got together his own home recording studio and has already produced a fabulous album for a local drumming star. Kocassale Dioubate is a drummer/composer/instrument maker from Guinee. The album is called Duniya Ragiri (Life's destiny). Pepe produced, arranged some, and played some. Check Koca's website here. Two new studio creations are also on the way. The first one is called "Closer to Silence", and it's an extension of the work started with "Emerge", ie. meditation and healing music. The second one is a follow up to "Drum Prayers" and it's entitled "Serious Trance Mission". It's music for dance, moving prayer and deep grooving.
Pepe has joined the group Tambura Rasa. You can check the group most Wednesdays at Chai Cafe on Brodway and Main. A CD is just about to be released and CBC has recorded their last show. For more info on the band go to their website. Pepe is teacing an ongoing workshop on Mondays at Chai Cafe, at 6:30 PM. The group is growing and the Spirit is rising. Come for a deep experience of drmming, free chai and a wonderful time. "One of a Kind Woman", Julie Blue's new CD with Pepe on percussion and drums, has been recieving amazing reviews. The pair will be touring quite a bit next summer, including the Queen Charlote's Festival "Edge of the World", where Pepe will also play Solo and with Tambura Rasa!.
